Christmas celebrations

Christmas is coming, and with all the parties its just another reason to get your hooks out. On YouTube is plenty of tutorials on how to make scarves with fancy scarf yarns. These yarns have a netty look to it.this gorgeous scarf was made by me in a few hours just by gathering and slipstitching :-)

School runs,bitter winds and crochet

Well today has been mainly school runs and cleaning, and have to take my daughter to ballet in an hour.but even in the bitter weather we are suffering, I still managed to sit in the bus shelter for 2 hours finishing ball 3 of 5 of my pink star blanket. Very pleased.starting ball 4 tonight...finally. You can get a good tutorial for it on youtube by the crochet crowd.

Crocheting a circle

I discovered quite a number of beginners find circles a little daunting. Here is my cheatsheet for a basic DC(american terms) circle.you can chain 6 and join or do a magic circle to begin. Chain 3 at the start of each round and always do the first dc in the same chain as you joined. The same goes for sc circles except you increase in 6s,start with 6scs and chain 1.x
  1. 12dc. 0
  2. 24dc 0
  3. 36dc. 1
  4. 48dc. 2
  5. 60dc. 3
  6. 72dc. 4
  7. 84dc. 5
  8. 96dc. 6
  9. 108dc. 7
  10. 120dc. 8

This list is: round number, number of dcs in that round and number of single dcs between 2dcs

What happens when you're having a weird night?

You end up creating ollie the snowman decoration lol.xx

Winter's coming....wear a cowl

  The Cait Cowl -age 2-4

MATERIALS
2 balls of worstest weight/aran yarn(I had 90g left)
1 ball of 50g faux fur(I prefer James c Brett faux fur or wendy Arctic faux fur
5mm hook
Yarn needle

INSTRUCTIONS

Diagonal spike stitch = DC in next 3 stitches,DC in same stitch as 1st DC of the 3 just made

Chain 40

ROW 1: DC in 4th chain from hook and next 2 stitches.DC in 1st DC made(1st diagonal spike stitch made). *skip a chain, diagonal spike stitch* repeat until last 2 chains. miss a chain and DC in last chain. chain 3 and turn.

ROW 2: diagonal spike stitch starting with 2nd stitch of row(the stitch after the stitch that is directly below chain). *skip a stitch, diagonal spike stitch* repeat until last 2 stitches. miss a stitch and DC in last stitch.chain3 and turn.

REPEAT ROW 2 UNTIL 51CM LONG

When finish last row,do not fasten off. fold piece of work length ways so foundation row and last row are together.starting with corner you are at slipstitch the 2 layers until reach the fold.fasten off and weave in ends.

Turn piece inside out so seam is on inside.

The seam is the back of the hood, the fold is the top of the hood. where the lower front of the hood is there are 2 corners of the short end of piece. over lap these at corners and attach yarn through both layers.

ROUND 1: chain 3,DC evenly around in every space available. if the hood seems to buckle not staying inline with hood do it with dcs in sts as well as spaces. DC in top of the chain 3

ROUND 2 - 6: As with hood *spike stitch, skip a stitch* around DO NOT JOIN

ROUND 7: CHOICES:

You can either slip stitch in next 2 stitches and fasten off, and then attach fur and do a DC round. OR do 2 plain DC rounds and then slip stitch in next 2 stitches OR do 2 rounds of shell stitches and fasten off. SEW IN ENDS

Using both ends of fur ball together, attach to lower hood brim where you overlapped corners. chain 2 and around brim in every space *2dc,DC* around ending in slip stitch in starting chain. fasten off and sew in ends.

ALL DONE

To increase size you can increase starting chain in multiples of 4 and increase length
